REVIEW: FORTY FOUR
Forty
Four (#1 With A Bullet)(Ford Music Co.) - 12/08
Steven J. Allen
This latest release by Detroit's very own Motor City Josh
is, without a doubt, his finest work to date. This tribute
to the Music of Howlin' Wolf stays very true to the style
of the master himself, yet it is distinctly Josh in every
aspect. He is joined on this work by the likes of
Johnny Rhoades, Justin Headley, Shawn McDonald, Stacia (Petrie)
Ford, Eric Savage, Chester Burnett, and Harmonica Master,
Jason Ricci. Forty Four is a CD that just rocks from beginning
to end. Listening to this release is like taking a trip
back to "Old Chicago" with an interjection of
today's Chicago and Detroit sounds. The rhythm section churns
up an awesome backbeat while Josh's guitar brings on the
steam. He squeezes sounds from his Fender Telecaster like
a mad scientist who knows exactly what he's doing, but is
having way, way, way too much fun doing it. Wolf would be
proud and amazed all at the same time. This CD is a "must
have" for all serious Chicago Blues fans because while
it educates and reminds all of us of the musical story
of Howlin' Wolf, Motor City Josh isn't shy about infecting
all of us with his own contagious style of kick-ass
Detroit Blues. You can get your very own copy at www.motorcityjosh.com.
